PRE$SHA breaks boundaries in R&B as she shares her unique artistic journey and vision in an exclusive interview.

Words by Raya Biasca

In the realm of R&B, rising star PRE$SHA (Young Madz) is making waves and breaking boundaries with her unique style and captivating sound.

As the lead female artist in the esteemed “Academy Entertainment Group,” PRE$SHA is making her mark on the music industry. Born and raised in Alaska, she now calls Philadelphia her home, where she continues to push the boundaries of her artistry.

PRE$SHA’s passion for music is deeply rooted in her upbringing. Surrounded by a family with diverse talents and musical tastes, she was exposed to a wide range of genres from an early age. Her father, in a unique twist, would sing her Weezer songs instead of lullabies, instilling in her an edginess that sets her apart.

However, it was her encounter with her favorite rapper, J.I.D, that truly ignited her musical journey. J.I.D’s artistry serves as a constant motivation for PRE$SHA, and her ultimate dream is to collaborate with him.

Additionally, PRE$SHA credits her producer, Jonny Hickman, for his unwavering support, dedicating endless time, energy, and resources to her music. Their bond transcends the professional realm, as Hickman is like a big brother to PRE$SHA.

PRE$SHA’s artistry is characterized by her unique style, combining dark imagery with a vibrant and colorful palette. Embracing her individuality, she proudly identifies as a “Certified Sad Girl,” a term that encapsulates her distinct musical approach.

Additionally, she embodies the ethos of C.A.T.S, which stands for “colorless, ageless, timeless, shapeless.” This philosophy reflects her desire to transcend societal norms and expectations, allowing her music to resonate with audiences across all boundaries.

She also incorporates the symbol of “zzzz” (depicting a sleeping emoji with four Zs) as a reminder to never underestimate her talent and artistry.

PRE$SHA’s journey in the music industry has been characterized by relentless dedication and a fierce work ethic. With numerous 15-hour studio sessions under her belt, she has demonstrated her commitment to honing her craft. In one remarkable feat, she even went three days straight without sleep, showcasing her unwavering passion for music.

As a traveling artist for three years, she performed in various states, immersing herself in different cultures and experiences. Along the way, she has collaborated with a multitude of emerging artists, solidifying her presence in the industry. Her talent has granted her backstage and studio access, allowing her to connect with fellow artists and industry professionals.

PRE$SHA’s journey is one filled with determination, creativity, and an unyielding drive to break barriers in R&B. As she continues to push boundaries and defy expectations, PRE$SHA’s raw talent and captivating sound are sure to make a big impact on the music industry.
