Nigeria’s Art and Culture Minister, Hannatu Musawa, presented her vision for boosting Nigeria and Africa’s creative industries and fostering unity across the continent during her attendance at the 66th Grammys in Los Angeles.

The 2024 Grammys showcased the global recognition of Afrobeats, with a dedicated category for African music that resulted in a record number of nominations from the continent. Burna Boy’s captivating performance at the event exemplified the immense popularity and dynamism of the genre, garnering support from Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy.

Minister Hannatu Musawa attended the ceremony to demonstrate her backing for both Nigerian and African artists, expressing her approval of the introduction of an African music category by the Grammys. This signifies a significant shift in the government’s attitude, highlighting the potential for utilizing cultural products like Afrobeats as powerful tools for economic empowerment and overall development.
